Get as close as possible without being intrusive to the action taking place, your best bet is either a 55-200mm or 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens. For good reach on a good day, try mounting one of these telephoto lens on a DSLR camera with an APS-C sized sensor and you get an equivalent field-of-view of 82.5-300mmand 105-450mm.
